When can I start?

You can start training whenever you like. We do not have set starting dates and welcome newcomers throughout the year.

All we ask is that you complete some contact details and inform us of any medical conditions that the coaches should be aware of.   Children under 12 years old must have a parent or guardian remain within the club for the duration of their session.

The club will lend you a judo jacket and belt for the first few weeks so you won’t need any special clothes just some tracksuit bottoms and a t-shirt. If you decide to continue with judo you will need to purchase your own judo uniform, please ask one of our volunteers as we sell them at reduced prices, a beginner’s judogi costs from just £30. We also sell second hand judogi for £5.

How much does it cost to train?

We charge £3 a session for adults and children.  Discounts for 3 or more family members.

Why do I need a licence?

Any person wishing to attend a BJA club is entitled to up to 4 lessons of trial membership.  After which you will be required to take out membership with the BJA to maintain your individual insurance, and the opportunity to further your Judo training.

Anyone continuing to attend a BJA club after the four lesson trial period, who does not hold a valid BJA membership will not be insured, and will be refused access to the mat.

Your licence is both your membership and grading record. Its second purpose is to give you third party insurance against injury.

Club Members are required to complete a Club Member Information Form and to renew this information each year.

Click here to download the Club Registration Form.

If you are still unsure if you will enjoy Judo, you may wish to take advantage of BJA recreational membership which will give you a years membership and entitles you to train, but you can not grade, nor compete on this membership.
